A Place For You - First Communion Preparation Holy Communion is a gift from God! As with any gift that God gives us, it is given with no strings attached. There is nothing that we can do that makes us more or less worthy to receive the gift. When you or your child receives a gift, it is natural to want to know all about what it is, how it works, and what to do with it. That is what the Hope Lutheran's communion preparation classes are designed to teach your child. This preparation process is for children in 5th grade - BUT, it is not meant to exclude children from all ages. Parents, if you feel your child is ready for their first communion no matter what age they are, then you, too, are invited. On Wednesday, March 24th at 5:45 pm, we will help you and your child actually make the chalice (cup) and paten (bread plate) that will be used for your child's first communion. On Sunday, April 4th at 3:00 pm, we will make the bread together! Each family will take two loaves home to enjoy together. On Wednesday, April 7th at 5:45 pm, we will be stomping grapes and learning what it means to eat bread and wine during the celebration of the Lord's supper. Finally, on Sunday, April 11th, you and your child will participate in Holy Communion together at the worship service of your choice. Continued on page 4 |
